Location:
The Wittliff Collections, including the Southwestern Writers Collection, the Southwestern & Mexican Photography Collection, and the Lonesome Dove Collection, are located on the seventh floor of the Albert B. Alkek Library on the campus of Texas State University-San Marcos. San Marcos is located between Austin and San Antonio along the IH 35 corridor.

Driving Directions
From IH-35 Exit 206

1. Take Exit 206 (Aquarena Springs Drive-Loop 82) and proceed along the frontage road to the light. Turn right and head west into San Marcos on Aquarena Springs Drive.

2. Continue past the football stadium (on left), cross the railroad tracks, then get into the right lane.

3. Continue past Strahan Coliseum (on left) and Clear Springs Apartments (on right). Cross the river, and take a right at the light onto Sessom Drive.

4. Go past three more streets (Peques Street, North LBJ Drive, and Tomas Rivera Drive) and at the light at Comanche, turn left.

5. Take your first left onto Student Center Drive. Take the first right (onto Gaillardia) to access the LBJ Student Center Parking Garage [#1 on the map above / burgundy on the map below]; entrance to the garage is at the far end.

6. Park and proceed into the LBJ Student Center. Go through the building (down the stairs or elevator and through the main doors); if the Student Center is closed, take the walkway to the right around the building. The white limestone Alkek Library is downhill on the left; the Wittliff Collections are on the seventh floor.

On Weekends: The Alkek Parking Garage [#2 on the top map] and the Woods Street Garage [#3 on the top map] are open and free to visitors. The LBJSC garage is a pay lot.

From IH-35 Exit 205 or Highway 80

1. Take Exit 205 and proceed west into San Marcos on Hopkins Street, continuing through the intersection of Hopkins and LBJ Drive. The city square and the Hays County Courthouse are located on the left of this intersection.

2. Continue through two more intersections to Comanche Street (there will be an H-E-B on your right) and turn right.

3. Proceed up Comanche, past Woods Street, until you pass under the overhead walkway and take a right onto Student Center Drive. Take the first right (onto Gaillardia) to access the LBJ Student Center Parking Garage [#1 on the top map / burgundy on the map directly above]; the entrance to the garage is at the far end.

4. Park and proceed into the LBJ Student Center. Go through the building (down the stairs or elevator and through the main doors); if the Student Center is closed, take the walkway to the right around the building. The white limestone Alkek Library is downhill on the left; the Wittliff Collections are on the seventh floor. See the map directly above.

From IH-35 Exit 204A

1. Take Exit 204A and turn on Guadalupe Street to head north into San Marcos. (Highway 123 becomes Guadalupe Street.)

2. Driving northwards toward downtown San Marcos, pass Love and Lee Streets, then turn right on Grove Street.

3. Drive only one block on Grove Street, then turn left on LBJ Drive. LBJ is a one-way street with three lanes of traffic. Stay in the left lane until reaching Hopkins Street. [Note: LBJ Drive may be undergoing construction. Watch for detours.]

4. Turn left on Hopkins, pass the city square and the Hays County Courthouse, and proceed through the next light. Stay in the right lane.

5. Continue to Comanche Street (there will be an H-E-B on your right) and turn right.

6. Proceed up Comanche, past Woods Street, until you pass under the overhead walkway and take a right onto Student Center Drive.
