Rocky Schenck was born in Austin and grew up in Dripping Springs. In his early teens, Schenck began a lifelong interest in motion pictures and photography. A self-taught photographer, he honed his photographic skills while taking production stills on the sets of his low-budget, experimental movies. Two New York shows, in 1987 and 1990, were well received and reviewed by several publications, including Art in America, Artforum, and Aperture. Since then, Schenck has continued to show in galleries around the world, and his work is now included in numerous prestigious collections. His first publication is Rocky Schenck: Photographs (The Wittliff’s Southwestern & Mexican Photography Series, UT Press, 2004). The Wittliff owns the major collection of his photographs. Schenck lives in Hollywood and has had great success as a music video director and a commercial and fine art photographer.
