In Memory of Gary Cartwright (1934-2017)

Gary Cartwright, 2010

We are very saddened by the loss of Gary Cartwright, a dazzling literary talent who was one of Texas’ most admired and influential journalists. His freewheeling gonzo style, bolstered by his deep reporting and careful attention to language and form, won legions of admirers in his many books and in the pages of Texas Monthly.
Cartwright began donating his literary papers to the Wittliff Collections in 1989. His archive at the Wittliff now totals nearly fifty boxes and is available to researchers.

We are honored to have Gary Cartwright’s papers at The Wittliff, and we are honored to accept contributions in his memory. Your gift will be used to support our work collecting, preserving, and celebrating the cultural heritage of Texas and the Southwest.
