Sam Shepard lists his relationship with Open Theater founder Joe Chaikin as one of the most important in his life. The two worked on a number of projects including Tongues and Savage/Love. The Wittliff Collections holdings include their collaboration on When the World Was Green, written for the 1996 Olympics Art Festival in Atlanta.
