Las Tesoros de San Antonio

The Wittliff celebrates a legendary group of trailblazing women in our new exhibition, Las Tesoros de San Antonio. Featuring materials on loan from the Ramón Hernández archive, "Las Tesoros" honors Rita “La Calandria” Vidaurri, Blanca “Blanca Rosa” Rodríguez, Beatriz “La Paloma del Norte” Llamas and Anita Jeanette “La Perla Tapatia” Cortez. Each recording artist achieved various levels of regional, national and international acclaim in the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s. In 2008, Graciela Sanchez, executive director of the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center in San Antonio, brought together the four spirited, big-voiced, ranchera singers to record their oral histories and form a new vocal group: Las Tesoros de San Antonio. They became a hit all over again!
